Roses and en rhododendrons in Rosarium
The Rosarium (rosary) shows over 20.000 roses of 320 different species during the summer months. During the spring you can enjoy 7.000 beautiful rhododendrons. It is no wonder people visit the rosary from all corners of the country. The Rose pavilion allows you to enjoy a delicious meal or a drink and snack on the terrace.
Green Market in Winschoten
If you like green, don’t miss out on the Green Market held every year on the first Saturday of July! This market, in the rosary of the city park in Winschoten offers garden plants, garden furniture and garden tools. Of course, roses are present as well. Winschoten remains the Rose in the Region.
In the 19th century the English style flourished in Oldambt. Formal gardens transformed into romantic parks. These Pendulum gardens show unexpected vistas. The facade of the farm or villa reflects in the pond, making it look even more impressive. Carefully landscaped winding paths run through the gently sloping lawn. Some of these gardens require an appointment before visit.
Yellow and Gold
A large part of Oldambt will turn yellow in the spring. The rapeseed blooms from April until June, covering the entire region with a yellow blanket of blossom. It makes your day. In the summer, the golden grains will gush across the fields. It is nice to cycle through it! By the way, the nickname of Oldambt is Grain Republic, and for good reason. Writer Frank Westerman introduced this term in his book about the history of the Region, and since then The Grain Republic has become a statement.
