Theatres in Oldambt

Cultural life is buzzing in Winschoten. Cultural centre De Klinker houses a modern theatre, arts centre and a library. The programming of the atmospheric theatre Tram Workplace is attractive and varied. During summer the performances in the amphitheatre in nature reserve Reiderwolde at the foot of the red tower between Beerta, Winschoten and Finsterwolde are very special.

Since March 2015, Oldambt has a beautiful new cultural centre. The building houses a theatre, an art centre and a library. Also a cinema and the local broadcaster RTV LOGO find shelter there. The theatre has a large and small hall.

In De Klinker expression is not only reflected in drama, dance and music. It gives space to a 24-hour cultural vibrancy. Due to its central location in Winschoten people pass by the cultural centre on a daily basis, where they can enjoy culture in the theatre, the library, the art centre or the radio studio. It is possible to reminisce on the show while enjoying a snack and a drink at the café of the theatre “Koperen Kees”.

From afar it is easy to recognize the amphitheatre in reserve Reiderwolde. On the hill next to it is a red watchtower, which is 7.20 meters tall. From above, you have great views of the entire area. The amphitheatre is not only for performances. It is also used for excursions and education.

The Tram Workplace

Actually, the old tram workshop should be leveled to the ground. But when the former cultural centre De Klinker had to be demolished and there was still no new theatre, this building was transformed into a small theatre with a flat floor. And guess what? The performances attracted many people who were thoroughly enjoying themselves. The neighboring shed had the function of production house with studio, dance and theatre space. The Tram Workplace is a kind of theatre laboratory: talent for art is discovered here, nurtured, developed and used in own art productions. The brasserie has been transformed into the Harbour Jazz Club Winschoten. A place to meet for lunch or a drink and listen to live music. Cultural heritage in Winschoten has thus been given a new function.
