Boating in Oldambt
Many new recreational sailing opportunities have arised since the Oldambtmeer and the Northern Blauwe Passage have been unlocked in 2015. In the sailing brochure "Varen in Oldambt" three beautiful sailing routes have been described.
This Sailing route brochure is available for free at every marina, Tourist Information Point and of course at the VVV (tourist office) in Winschoten.

If you feel like boating a few hours to discover Blauwestad, the sailing route: Rondje Blauwestad (‘Around Blauwestad’) will fit your needs. Moor here and there to enjoy the view or to go for a hike in the nature reserve Reiderwolde.
The red watchtower of nature reserve Reiderwolde is visible from afar. It’s the perfect place for a walk, bike ride and… to pick some fruit: apples, pears and prunes. The amphitheatre and a natural cemetery can be found adjacent to the tower.
The Grain route
The Grain route will lead you from Winschoten, across the Oldambtmeer, Nieuwolda and Termunterzijl across the Dollard and via the Nieuwe Statenzijl and Bad Nieuweschans back to Winschoten in two or three days. Keep in mind there are strong currents in the Dollard.
Sail along this amazing route in one or two days, taking you from Winschoten, accross the Oldambtmeer to Nieuwolda, to Scheemda and back to Winschoten.
Remember to visit the historic harbour before leaving Winschoten. And once you are there anyway, Winschoten centre is only a 5 minute walk away, offering remarkable shopping and dining opportunities.
